Fantastic progression in smooth spring thermals
The first few days were spent at the ever reliable Montellano where the guys got back into the swing of things with some ground handling and medium flights to perfect their launching and landing techniques. This was soon to be followed by some cracking flying from the Lijar mountain which saw the pilots ticking off their big ears and speed bar before making their approaches for some random spot landings picking the farmers nicely cropped field instead of the big target in the big landing field next door. Don’t worry guys I wont tell the farmer it’s “Our little secret!”.
2500ft and cloudbase
The next few days didn’t disappoint with some more epic flights from the 2500ft westerly take off of Lijar and some great soaring flights at Montellano with Claire giving one up for the girls by outsoaring all of the lads and making another perfect spot landing next to the windsock.
By Thursday the whole group were soaring together at Vejer and really starting to look like pilots having completed nearly all of their tasks.
The last day saw yet more fantastic Spanish weather as we headed off to the beach for some coastal soaring at Mataslascanas where yet again Claire was outsoaring the boys as the whole group headed off for an 8km ridge run cross country with our instructor Jose, before returning to make their top landings on the sandy plateaux above the beach.
Our thanks go to Crad, Claire, Janson, Tim, Hussain, Chad and Chris for making it such an enjoyable CP week. We are very proud to call you all Club pilots and look forward to seeing you all on the hills in the summer when we return to South West Wales for our summer school.
