XI - a light star is born

Many have been waiting for it; there’s been something missing from the ADVANCE paraglider palette. The new XI EN/LTF-B light glider will appear on the market in five sizes this summer. The High End Intermediate lightweight is intended for cross country, thermaling and Hike & Fly pilots equally. This all-round talent from 3.4 kg means flying fun paired with maximum performance in its class.

State of the art technology with minimum weight

Weightwise the XI is at the lowest end of high-end B weights, but at the top of the performance spectrum. The wing is predominantly made from 27gm Porcher Sport Skytex, with Skytex 32gm used for the highly stressed places. The XI has high quality Edelrid Magix Pro lines. These double-coated Aramid lines demonstrate high length stability, and the canopy stays in trim even after intensive use. Our X-Alps-tested Sliced Diagonals do not add weight, especially in this light wing. The risers are convenient to handle, but softlinks make them extremely light. They have a pitch control function with some effect transferred to the B-level. This is activated by direct riser control, without the additional handle. It goes without saying that the XI has our state-of-the-art technologies such as Advanced Air Inlets, Double-3D-Shaping, Mini Ribs and length-optimised C-Wires for simple packing.

New Product New Name

The latest ADVANCE progeny has the Greek letter xi for a name. The genes of the OMEGA XALPS 2 and PI 2 combine to create a new and separate High End EN/LTF-B light glider – with the safety and performance of an IOTA 2. Combined with the new LIGHTNESS 3 – on the market next autumn - the XI makes up the perfect package for cross country with hiking. Certification tests are largely finished, first demo wings are expected in August.

Ingredients for adventurers

ADVANCE test pilot Kari Eisenhut and the two instructors Beni Kälin and Andy Jäggi have already delivered a foretaste of what is possible with the new high performance light intermediate with some exciting projects. Both have tested the XI extensively in different flying conditions, and have several times flown more than 200 kms in the Alps and the Indian Himalaya. A number of pre-serial wings are currently underway worldwide. We are eager to find out what pilots can achieve, and look forward to reporting their experiences in new and fascinating stories on /advancedadventures. First stories will follow soon.

Perfect weight range choice

The XI size selection was thought of as having Seamless Weight Ranges between 10 and 15 kg steps. Every pilot’s flying weight will find itself within only one ideal take-off weight range, because these ranges extend seamlessly through the glider sizes, but do not overlap. These XI ideal takeoff weight areas provide the optimal relationship between gliding speed and climb performance for each size in all normal flying conditions, and also take into account the different paraglider size characteristics
