Turkey SIV 2010
The Control Course
Olu Deniz, Turkey September 2010 with Russell Ogden
Yet again we offer our students only the best of courses with some of the best pilots in the world, this year our very own Russ Ogden, ranked second in the world and top full time design test pilot at Ozone is hosting a Control S.I.V course in the Oludeniz, Turkey. The Week starts from the 11th of September, bookings are limited to 10, so drop us a line if you want to get your name down.
The Course
The Control Course is a week of intensive training with four days reserved for manoeuvres and three days for thermalling, xc or free flying, depending on
conditions.
Being in complete control of your wing is essential for a prolonged, successful and enjoyable flying career. It should be your aim as a pilot to be in total control. With the knowledge and experience learnt during the Control Course, you will gain a greater understanding and confidence in your wing. This will not only make you a better pilot, but also a safer pilot.
The course starts with a detailed safety briefing and a synopsis of the day’s exercises, followed by the unforgettable ride up the mountain for the first flight of the day. After a debrief and a light lunch it will be up again for the second flight.
This will give you the opportunity to practice the previous exercises, as well as progressing to the next. The debriefing session in the evenings, allows for a more detailed and personal commentary on your performance.
The initial flights will focus on gaining confidence in your wing. With pitch control exercises, 360’s, turn reversals and wing overs, you will understand the relationship between pendulum forces, speed and energy. This will enable you to progress more confidently through the more demanding manoeuvres:
Asymmetric deflation, symmetric deflation, search for stall/spin, full stall and rapid descent techniques.
The aim of the week is learning and progression; depending on your level this could mean anything from tight turns to tumbling. The course is tailored exactly to your needs.
Course Outline:
- Day1- Orientation flight /Safety Briefing.
- Day2 - Control course flights ox 2. Briefings
- Day3 - Control course flights x 2. Briefings
- Day4 - ‘Rest’ day, no manoeuvres but thermalling / XC flight if possible
- Day5 - Control course flights x 2. Briefings
- Day6 - Control course flights x 2. Briefings
- Day7 – Thermalling/free flight.
Details of course, if the weather is less than perfect then SIV flights will take priority so any days/flights lost will be rescheduled on the thermalling / XC days.
The Venue Located on the south east Turkish coastline and famous for its beautiful scenery of golden beaches, Olu Deniz is an amazing backdrop to undertake your training. The take off is at 6500 ft from Baba Dag (Father Mountain).

- Helmet
- 2m Radio
- Medical repatriation insurance (bring a photocopy)

“I’m so glad I‘ve not gone through my entire life without experiencing that incredible flight………….”
Paragliding offers the one elusive thing that man has always strived for - the ability to fly and see some of the world’s most stunning locations from a bird’s eye view. Once you have gained experience and progressed to thermalling, you will even be able to fly with the birds, such as kites, buzzards and even vultures! All you need is the right equipment, the expert tuition from our team of instructors and the Spanish wind beneath your wings. So what are you waiting for?
Anyone can do it
As an adventure sport, paragliding is one of the very few where men and women can compete on equal terms, as physical strength and body weight are not an issue. Neither is it a specialist sport, with tens of thousands of paragliders across Europe alone. It does not demand a high level of fitness and you can learn at your own pace and in a friendly enviroment. See a short film of recent students learning to fly with us this March.
Courses tailored to your skill level
In determining your level of experience and the course level most suitable, the number of flying hours done (if any) is taken into account. Tuition from other other non Uk schools is can be really difficult to convert and typically means almost resitting your Club pilot course! At Flyspain we are aware of the importance of tuition wherever it it is acrued so if you have made a week with a school in France or South America - no problem, speak to the Flyspain team to find out what is your next best step. Remember all qualifications attained with us are Uk BHPA qualifications recognised the world over!
At entry level - for the complete beginner and novice, we have our Elementary Pilot’s Course. For this, a couple of instructors will accompany the group, one at launch and one at landing, offer lectures and debriefings on personal flying technique and progression. We will take you from small hops to confident higher flights in the safe hands of our experienced team. (See our syllabus fact sheet at the foot of the page).
5 Day Beginners Elementary Pilot Course £695, (inc. Accomodation & Airport transfers)
On completion of the elementary course, you can move on to our Club Pilot Course either immediately following or at later date. In this course you will learn the finer points of flying, after first focussing on the essential basics to consolidate your learning. A CP license is your ticket to free flight outside the school. Remember only BHPA schools can hand out Uk qualifications, there will be no need for any funky conversion courses back home, costing you more money (See our syllabus fact sheet at the foot of the page). New for 2009! numbers are limited to 4/5 to 2 instructors, see the note below.
Need to Complete your Club Pilot - fed up of Uk weather?
Our Club pilot(Cp) courses for 2009 are now limited to only 5 pilots per course to a ratio of 2 instructors, we will be teaching Cp tasks and soaring skills using additional tandem flights. Airtime will be a real priority which is easily achieved with small group numbers. To date we have achieved an averageof 3-4 hours of flight time! It won't be a case of ten min soaring flights but 30 - 50 min flights minimum! FlySpain is a Overseas BHPA British registered school with over ten years of experience in our full time base here - accept no pale immitations!
6 Day Club Pilot Course £795 or €850( inc accomodation & Airport transfer)
